Ruddington shoppers and traders are being warned to be on the lookout for counterfeit currency ahead of this weekend’s big Christmas Fayre.
We were first alerted to the scam by Julia Towers of Julia’s Kitchen who describes two young girls around the village who’ve been attempting to pass fake Scottish £20 notes in local shops. Julia warns: “They are spending the absolute minimum to gain as much change as possible. My shop has received one (pictured) the florist has received two and Karen at the wool shop also received one. All the serial numbers are different. I’m not sure what else can be done but I just wanted to warn others in the village.”
Perkins Hardware has also issued an alert on Twitter about the “very realistic” bogus bank notes. Police have been informed and now everyone is asked to be vigilant. If you have captured any CCTV footage of the suspects, see them again, or someone attempts to give you one of the forged Scottish £20 notes, you’re asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 as quickly as possible.
